Susan Batson worked as actress, stage manager, casting director, producer and personal coach of Juliette Binoche, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and others. Susan Batson had her first big success in the musical ‘Hair’ at the end of the sixties, followed by many Broadway Shows, films, television and theatre, where she acted with partners like Paul Newman and Sophia Loren. Susan Batson is author of the acting book Truth: Personas, Needs, and Flaws in the Art of Building Actors and Creating Characters (Kidman wrote the foreword).

Susan Batson uses the „Method“as a flexible tool which she applies specifically to the students and their needs. She concentrates on the specific problems of the actor’s expression, on connecting intimacy and universality to artistic expression. This precise way of working expands the range of the individual possibilities. The emphasis will be on the work on scenes and monologues and on „audition training“, with scripts changing from day to day. The analytical part of the actor’s work consist of the emotional work starts:

„You are responsible to create a functioning, speaking, thinking and feeling person. Imagine the real life of the person. Design a biography of your character. Make a list of what you like and dislike about the character. Find out what you appreciate and understand concerning your character. And then decide how you are going to express your view and communicate it to the audience.“

Group 1, daily 10am – 4pm (extension possible): For actors from theatre, film and TV. Exercises are used to prepare the “instrument of the actor”, a physical and psychical approach to the character by using daily changing monologues. No preparation necessary.

Group 2, daily 6pm – 12pm (extension possible): For actors, who worked already with Susan Batson. On the basis of a prepared character every actor will approach the character by using daily changing exercises, to get to know the character backwards.

PARTICIPATION: The number of participants is limited. Your participation will be valid after confirmation by letter/Email. Film- or sound recordings are not allowed. Interkunst does not take responsibility for injuries happening during the Master Class.

WITHDRAWAL: If the written withdrawal is announced 14 days before the start, Interkunst keeps 20 %, later 50 % of the fee. The day the Master Class starts, a refund will no longer be possible.
